To Schedule Your Initial Consultation:

Please call our office at (858) 384-5757 to schedule your Initial Consultation and ask to speak with our Client Services Director. We will schedule the most convenient time available for you with to make planning as easy for you as possible. Your consultation begins with an educational introduction into the world of estate planning and asset protection. Once we go through this informational workshop we will apply these estate planning and asset protection principles to your current situation to allow you to come up with your ideal way to make the best use of these principles in a plan for your family.

We provide our best service to those families who are looking for a hands-on, long-term relationship with their trusted advisor. We do not believe in blind trust of an attorney, we explain everything in full detail until you the client completely understands the services being provided for you. We expend most of our energy providing an exceedingly high degree of service to our existing clients and only take referrals from trusted Professional Planning Partners.

How to Prepare for Your Initial Consultation:

About three days after scheduling your appointment, you will receive a Priority Mailer with your Estate Planning Worksheet and other important information that you will want to review prior to your personal Family Planning Consultation. We must have your Estate Planning worksheet returned to our office three days prior to your Consultation either by mail, fax or electronic mail or we will need to reschedule your Consultation. Feel free to call the office at any time if you need assistance completing your worksheet or have any questions at all. If you have existing estate planning documents, please make sure that we have your existing documents in our office at least a week before your meeting so that we can review them prior to meeting with you.

What to Expect from Your Initial Consultation:

On the day of your meeting, please expect to spend two hours with your attorney. The initial meeting with your attorney has two purposes: to identify whether there is a good fit between you us as well as to educate you about the law and what would happen if you died with your current (or no) plan in place. Educating you as the client is our foremost concern, if you are educated properly then it is you who can and should make the best decision for your family, not the lawyer.

By looking at what would happen under your current plan, you can identify what you would want to happen differently. Then together with Chhokar Law Group’s guidance, you can make the decisions that are necessary to give you the peace of mind of knowing your family would be taken care of in the way you want if something happened to you. If you and our firm determine that there is a good fit between us and your family, then you will identify specifically how you want your estate to be handled. Subsequently, we can design a plan together for your family right away.

Our Unique Maintenance Program

Our maintenance program sets us apart from most estate planning firms and allows us to care for you and your family through all stages of life. At most estate planning firms, the relationship ends when you sign your documents. However, Chhokar Law Group, P.C. views the signing of your estate planning documents as the beginning of our relationship with you and your family. The documents themselves are the least of what we provide, your lifetime access to education, legal counseling and frequent plan reviews are the true value. If your planning documents are not maintained properly then they are worth no more than the paper they were printed on.

As your assets, family, and the law change over time, it is necessary to make sure your plan continues to work exactly the way you intended. The financial and emotional costs of failing to update your plan are far greater than taking the time to maintain your plan. The total costs of maintaining your plan from inception through the settlement period (the period where your assets are distributed after death) is roughly one percent of the value of your estate, the total costs of going through the probate court system as a result of a defective (or lack of) a living trust will cost roughly five percent of the value of your estate. This increased cost also has the additional elements of an agonizingly slow court process (around 12-20 months before the estate is settled) and your entire estate being public, remember everything that goes through the probate court is public record.

In order to help you make sure your plan is always current, Chhokar Law Group, P.C. offers our maintenance program. As a member, we will conduct an annual review of your plan and make sure that all of your assets are titled properly, we will completely restate your trust every two years to make sure it is up-to-date with changes in the law as well as your family and provide you the option of an annual “mastermind” meeting which allows you to get completely control of your finances through a joint meeting with our office, your CPA, financial adviser and banker. We also provide your family with the comfort of knowing that you can contact our office for guidance on any legal matter, any time, completely free of charge. There will likely be a time when someone in your family needs a lawyer, and we want you to have the peace of mind that comes with knowing that you can count on Chhokar Law Group, P.C.
